Bebop or bop is a style of jazz developed in the early to mid-1940s in the United States, which features songs characterized by a fast tempo, complex chord progressions with rapid chord changes and numerous change of key instrumental virtuosity, and improvisations based on a combination of harmonic structure making use of scales and occasional reference to the melody (wikipedia) With this definition, I think the perfect word to describe Hiatus Kaiyote's Chose your weapon would be as a Soul Bebop.
Hiatus kaiyote is an Alternative RnB band featuring lead singer Nai Palm, Paul Bender Simon Malvin and Perrin Moss signed to Sony Masterworks, Drawing inference from Coltrane, bebop mash up of sounds are meant to catch you by surprise the idea is to give your brain the unpredictable, Not knowing what sound to expect just like that this soul bebop involves beat switches and catchy melodies which usually start as undertone for other sounds so in so that the instrumentals themselves are the songs, singing something new. When you think of it, nothing that new can be sung, as every theme have been exhausted but not every beat, with a desire to create something fresh, and new, Chose Your Weapon blaze a trail in an uncharted region gaining ballast with the beautiful voice of  Nai Palm, It gives a little perspective into why this album is one of the most sampled of its time
The fluctuating tempo, and prominence of the drums, beat and voice switches give this tag of being a Soul bebop, Maybe not the first of its kind bu the unique nature of this project means many artistes are going to draw inference from this album, in the insatiable music world, Something new with a jazzy and funk feel laced with fast tempo beat and melodious snippets. Chose your weapon really is something and evidence of it's influencefound in Thundercat and Ronald Bruner Jr’s album capping with Anderson .Paak's sampling of Molasses
Even now I can't place nor hum a song in the entire album but every beat Is well timed and place side by side in a colorful blend of beautiful, making it one of the interesting listen of recent time for me.
