Music is an expression of one's self, feelings or emotions through sounds. noticing the word expression and feelings. it is the ultimate brain child of an individual accumulating in writing sounds and beat the experiences of that person's life and how those experiences have gone to shape the said artist.
As an artist releasing your first album could be a bother, and if i remember a certain king saying there's beauty in the struggle, it reflects even in your work and that pressure could go on to create one of the best albums of your life as your soul and mind is infused in it.
Fast forward two years later, a million people feel that way and downloaded and bought your album you no longer have to crash at the subway or owe rent, There is a total upliftment, How then do you stay sad and resonate with the million of loners who will definitely need another drug to make them think of suicide a little less?
Feelings - You as an artist don't feel sad you don't hate the world anymore, you feel happy, but your happy album doesn't feel like the previous one at least that\'s what the numbers say.
Soon, you get placed on a pedestal as people pull, tease and force you to release a project which they still don't think is all that, then what do you do? Do they still remember that you are human just like them do they know that, that spark of genius is not going to last forever?
I write this because i have also found myself hating some certain album of artiste i thought would go on to sing certain way or even go a shade more darker only for them to totally surprise me if i am being modest (and I am) for example, Elijah blake, Tove Lo, Meghan Trainor, Rhye, James Bay, et. al
But it shows that you can't actually remove the artist from his art, his feelings will be expressed in whatever way he wishes and if he feels happy, it will definitely be radiated in the project. I am just Using happiness as a yardstick to explain, there could be other factors too, like a call back to the ordinary, a change of producer, or a totally different approach towards life.
I saw an article reviewing Eminem;s latest album Revival on djbooth and it had a caption by the writer of it being the worst album he has heard. I was taken aback because even though the album is no Encore, it is still good, Eminem is no longer a young man he is old and doing quite well for his age, which the writer who obviously has placed him somewhere forgot to take cognizance of, but tagging the album "worst" made me amused because i have heard some albums like Ylvis album and still i didn't give it the superlative, talk more of Revival
iit just made me realize the amount of pressure we put on artist and implore us to be at least understanding when they meet up to our expectations. We wouldn't either.
