Sangatsu no lion is the cutest strategic play into the heart of loneliness. Illustrated by Chica Umino this anime is a wonderful blend of shogi, heart and the cutest nostalgia.
Kiriyama Rei is a Highschool Professional Shogi player who has to wrestle work and schooling, with a brain racking task of finding money through strict day to day tact and strategy in life, with his job, with people, his feelings and emotions.
But who will he complain to about the stressful nature of his life when his parents and sister died in a car crash and like the coocoo bird he is partly responsible for the plummeting crash of his adoptive family.
Howeer, He is just a young man trying to survive
But to be at his guard at all time with everyone even other shogi players whose Livelihood also depends on his loosing, making friends will be an impossible task when you are faced with Loneliness depression, anger frustration and trust issues.
But he does find calm in Akari Hinata. Momo, The Kawamotos provides him with a subtitute where he can be free and relaxed, So also do Nikaidou and Shimada who tug at his heart one piece as a time as they carefully play the game of life one tap at a time
This is a beautiful anime well written and we'll casted, I thought it was too cute, the eyes and rouge on their faces but it ended up being for me the best way to tell a similar story of our lives.
The series felt to be too cute for me, when i started, but I began to understand the ennui, the calm, the brath of fresh air that is needed as a therapy for me to even evaluate the kiriyama in me, I therefore began to calm down too and see that in this one, there are no antagonist just simple people trying to make it, and the victory of another might just be what hinders your own progress and it ain't anyone's fault they are simply trying to survive like Professional shogi players moving from one class to another and that how life works too in a way. We are all simple innocent hinderers.
So i gulp every bubble from the lime drink needed to calm their aching knees as they play, i sigh every time the breeze blows on his hair, I take in every intentionality in the tap of the pieces and say it was therapeutic watching this anime.
