The organisation of an Annual music festival in a country can help a lot in purging all of the disappointments, frustrations and can also serve as a spiritual experience
Watching the documentary Above and Beyond; Giving up the Day Job, I saw the impact the music had on the listeners/ audience, and knew that Music revivals and concerts can replace the numinous nature of religion, We just have to set in a particular month it can uded to uplift and transcend the listeners, giving them a a more filling and feeling experiences
Concerts like the Lagos Music Sun splash festival and Kennis music fiesta are still organized but they don't have the numinous power seen in the documentary above, due to the eon long Nigeria mediocrity, choices of song and approach.
They should be dedicated to the love of one another so that they can draw strength from the altar of music and live through and find a reorientation for the coming year as they experience it can serve as a total transformation of their lives, To end each year with, a win regardless of the upheavals of the face that year
Even now that we are plagued with a crazy virus that keeps straining I feel all the more the importance of a music revival in the lives of every citizen, especially in Nigeria where things like this are not common place or very expensive.
The people have no release, they have no way to purge or expiate their pent up energy and frustrations But if the government were to allow during the month of August when most schools are on holidays to organise something, (since the bulk of employment in Nigeria are mostly private school teachers), It will be quite something and very much appreciated as it will allows a month for people to free themselves and truly have fun.
A plan I harbor is to do something like this will be to rent the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos as most pastors and churches do, Get those big speakers, and connect them facing each other diagonally, start a music revival around 8pm, with 8 movable toilets divided in twos (one for either gender) for people to pee , and start playing Fela music in the loudest volume from 8pm in the night to 6am the next morning, Just that. and I assure you the people who will come for that revival will be refreshed when they leave. Especially if the playlist is gotten from the following albums : Gentleman, Na Poi, JJD, Coffin for Head of State, No Agreement, Zombie, Underground System, Kalakuta Show et. al
Boy will it be so wonderful, nothing just dancing singing, shaking, and connecting to the Underground spiritual game, Just once a year, done to help people release pent up anger and unhappiness.
In the morning we can all go home and really evaluate our lives, knowing that no matter how that year goes, we had that one night we were truly happy.,And it isn’t all that expensive to do.
For now due to the constraints of money, Me sweating and dancing In my room listening to Fela through my earpiece or bluetooth speaker as late as 3am in the morning with probably a spliff in my hand will do. But the dream still involves the bulk of the Nigerian youths, and I hope to achieve it someday.
Someday
