Just a little science fiction I cooked up about the Neural Link and stem cell research, I think my interest Elon and his inquest into Computer Brain weld technology.
Now prosthetics have been a growing field for quite sometime now as the replacement of accident or war lost limbs have been slow to say the least, Yes robotics might try but you never quite feel the wiry and firm grasp of a finger or the nervous reaction towards temperature, in a nutshell it's never quite the same.
We couldn't sign off on all fresh corpses, running around calling Vets for a blood match, "Yes, Yes, it's fresh are you an o negative, He died of an accident, You want two legs...
No! nor are we going to start sawing off the hands of chimpanzees, robbing Peter to pay Paul.
But since it's a limb, the solution might lie where you least expect, in plants, trees.
Now listen to this, think about Groot, loving Marvel character off the Guardian of the Galaxy, He is basically a tree, but he is sentient, blown into smithereens and still germinated again.
Now think about that and how we could apply it to prosthetics, we could use the neural network of a tree write a code that controls, branches of a shoot as fingers, which can function as a hand and still be very much alive with nerves and sensation.
This is a hypothetical but let's continue, Plants habe nerves, weirtre a code to the wiring of that nerve, create a stem cell development of a trunk designed genetically to grow into a five fingered hand, attach a core that sustains it's growth photosynthesis and osmosis
The plant is alive, sincve animal and plant cells couldn't mesh(I haven't thought that far)
We can therefore create a stump socket, the end of the one and begining of the other.
So you implant the neuralink, to the brain connected to the written code for primacy on the trunk allowing the brain to control the fingers, though wooden like a normal functional hand.
it is more complex as hand because of the ubiquity of the fingers but as a leg, it's genius.
A Plant and animal cells mesh might happen one day at the height of stem cell research, where people would never have to worry about losing a limb, assured that they would just get a plant stem cell transplant or implant like a modem day Groot, or more like Hachirama cells from Naruto. (Obito used them, Danzo too)
But for now what I am sure is tenable is the nerve cell controlling of the limb based on the writing of the code, brain should then control function especially the fingers
Now if we talking in terms of using plant stem cells alone, using something like the Hachirama cells in Naruto, It means we have to make use of Chemistry, whereby the cellulose in the plant cells will be fed on the glucose off the person's animals cells while the neural wiring is written into the stem cell. Here the limb is attached to the person's body through and through.
But this requires a more complex mesh of the animal and plant cells, where the sustainability of the plant cells would be a selective osmotic sapping of glucose from the individual for keeping the plant cell alive. ( A vector might be involved, possible electron bacteria using the electron off it's feed to power the stem cell.)
But in the case of the previous hypothesis, the plant or trunk is alive fed sunlight in a light core implant that maintains the life of the trunk, Therefore, the relationship between man and plant is mainly neural. There is no intertwine the between plant and animal cells as the stump socket prevents that. The plant is alive, the stump is alive too, There would not be a risk of vegetation as the outer covering have been designed, planed and lacquered and man can live anew regardless of whatever might be lost in transit either property or even limbs with the reimagination of prosthetics.
