I have had my share of weird albums from Bjork Vuknicura, Fka Twigs LP1 and I think some are cool. Except Ylves album I don't know what they were singing, I swear to God.
Now I don't know the yardstick to measure when an album is weird and when its just plain trash. Because I understand what it takes to make music but I think I rather sound bland and typical than sound too weird because of artistic freedom.
As much as I would like to keep and own every album there is. I have to press shift+delete on some albums not because they are not good, some might be because I have heard it and would kill myself if I listen to another song.
Point in case is the Lance Skiiwalker album which as far an album being weird and deserving to go, I was caught up in a crossroad with this one
I feel it is new and as far the album goes this should be labelled " Funkily Weird"
Most of the songs are not long and just Only Stockholm is close to 4 minutes which is the longest
Forbidden fruit hits you with a funky vibe stuff with the "ain't that amazing" hook and it also has biblical references "she took the apple just to be with me, ain't that amazing" but when the beat hits it gives the song form but this doesn't last long until the next track
Radio which involves a man telling us stay tuned to skiiwalker radio but the background soundtrack shows that this is going to be a very weird album
Could it be started cool like a normal RnB track the beat is cool and simple, but the occasional
and connecting of voice shows that its gonna be weird by this time I am checking my earpiece for faults and unlocking my phone to see If the music has changed as another different song is played. "Roses blue girl why are you blue" and the / conversation by this time.
Speed maintains the same funky tune as the upbeat ruffling sound is shadowed with a speaker buzz like sound " only if the party jump, ... But I like the second part which is a little RnB and it themes around December a remembered loves and She knowing Reality "
I was very interested in this song and it started well, I was like this might be a good ballad. But the sound underneath diverts my mind and ears from what might be a good song and suddenly * You hear "Yo baby let me tell you something" and it sounds so nice and you wonder why can't the whole album sound this way.
In Sound the caller admits to the weirdness of this album and is asked if she will like to hear more. and the songs starts with the same funkiness that shows the wonderful voice he has
The Weird funkiness continues in All Stops and Skits/Her Songs. Attraction is a nice ballad but this time I am already tired and just listen on
Next song I'm interested in because of the groovy one I was expecting it to be the jingle of the album you know the song I come back for. Boy was I wrong. What do I expect the song is not even up to 2 minutes and my eardrums grew hands like a blind man who lost a quarter. I was searching for Q's voice
Advantage practically took advantage of me as it continued.
Hey, Lovers lane is not so bad as I like the song "Till it feels good I'mma keep loving you baby" I finally found a song I understand as I love the beat and his voice nothing weird here just cool.
And Reality brought me back to the skiiwalker planet cool song too. But ending it in the middle of a sentence was just cliche almost expected "and I say"
Well finishing the sentence .

I feel the Woman condition motivated this album and up to me I'd say the album is meant to characterise women and the whole album was the paintings of a woman in character. Weird and Funky. For a moment you don't understand and when you are getting tired, Wait! it hits you this is cool and that's just how I felt
This album looks like the combination of Frank Ocean's Endless and Blonde in a single album combining them in a weird/good part of the song in a sonnet like funkiness
Too much of artistic freedom if you ask me as TDE took a risk with this one but weirdly enough
I might be the first to download another Skiiwalker album.
