When we were younger we always dream of becoming doctors
pilots or engineers and we enter the school that our parents can afford and
find out that we have that physics teacher hates us and makes us fails physics
chasing us to the art class and killing any hope of becoming a doctor. It is
not quite easy to achieve our dreams to pacify ourselves we tell our selves
maybe that Is the plan God had for us and strive to make it within the
constraint of our choice
Settling is when you finally see that truly
we are the architect of our own life. When we regret those times we didn’t go
the extra mile or read extra thinking not taking things serious thinking they
don’t matter when in fact they actually
As A student I was quite good in biology and chemistry but physics was the bane of my existence and I didn’t find it funny attending a private school meant the physics teacher would also be the maths teacher what was the essence –private venture – profit making using one teacher to teach 3 subjects so he brought that hate into the math class and all I could do was wear jeans shorts underneath my school uniform to cushion the strokes of cane destined for my buttocks.
What if I had been taught by a better teacher? Would I have been a doctor ?
Admission into the university depends on connection and financial prowess As I was only going to be entering a federal
university, With a federal university you were going to face the obvious strike and the
course you applied for would not be likely given to you.
You move on!
Before you know your
destiny is changed and you look for happiness in whatever you do and
palliate yourself with words like “it doesn’t guarantee anything” and "Anyway Na Way"
Many of us dabble
into music, The bulk of us choose between teaching, business or entering the
force, and the lucky ones who happened to have uncles or aunts in prominent
companies and banks find ways of affixing their loved ones. The rest less lucky ones out of frustration look for anything, Soon money becomes the only thing that drives them and they chase it because probably they now have a baby on the way and we have to provide for the family because they see marriage as the only thing that can filled the void of an unfulfilled life trying to find joy in the smile of your children who with prayer don’t disappoint you. Show them too much love they end up becoming incompetent. Who punish and train them with harsh hands you end up making them capable men who hate and resent you, makes you ask if there really is any Joy in Life ?
Sometimes we try to warn our younger ones about their damned existence and how they should fortify themselves with education and perseverance but they immediately hate you if you try to advise them. Settling is that part of your life where you realize that “ Well I guess this is the life for me” and you look back at the mistakes that you made and just sigh through it all.

But what if life was just how we planned it. But we hope
that it all for the good. For the boy who would have been a Doctor, But amidst the what ifs Settling involves forgiving ourselves and hoping that the inner us and that child that knows that we are worth more than that 9-5 job forgives us. and understands that the harsh reality of life domesticated us making us drop whatever dream we could have followed.
